SBA guaranty fee: common questions
How much is the SBA guaranty fee?
On the standard schedule it runs 2% to 3.75% of the SBA-guaranteed portion of a 7(a) loan, by size: 2% up to $150,000, 3% from $150,001 to $700,000, and 3.5% (plus 3.75% on guaranteed dollars over $1M) above $700,000. Short-term loans are 0.25%. The SBA can waive or change fees each fiscal year.
Is the SBA guaranty fee charged on the whole loan?
No. It is charged on the guaranteed portion only (typically 85% of a loan up to $150,000 and 75% above that), not the full loan amount.
Do you pay the SBA guaranty fee upfront?
It is usually financed into the loan rather than paid in cash, so it adds to your balance and monthly payment instead of requiring money at closing.
